12MB/s speed and 80GB capacity DLTtape uses MP (metal particle) technology in a space-saving
single-reel cartridge, offering high capacity of 40GB native
or 80GB compressed and high data transfer speed of 12MB/s,
compressed (DLT IV cartridge in DLT8000).
To support this performance, DLT employs adaptive cache buffering,
multiple heads and longitudinal serpentine tracks.

* The 40/80GB capacity format of DLT 1 and
DLT VS80 drives is NOT the same as the DLT 8000 40/80GB capacity
format. These two data formats are NOT compatible with each
other.

Drives and a variety of automated tape libraries are available
from multiple equipment vendors. DLTtape is applicable to workstations,
network servers, mid-range systems and high-end systems requiring
high-performance tape backup and Hierarchical Storage Management
(HSM). DLTtape systems provide the performance and reliability
needed for Network Attached Storage (NAS) and Storage Area Network
(SAN) backup solutions.
DLT 8000 and all earlier drives feature backward read/write
compatibility. DLT1 and VS80 drives can read DLTtape IV written
by the DLT4000 20/40GB drive (but c annot write to DLT4000,
7000 or 8000 formatted tapes) and both write the same DLT1
40/80GB. DLT VS160 drives can read DLTtape IV written by DLT1
and VS80 drives (read only). SDLT-320 and SDLT-220 drives
offer backward read compatibility with every DLTtape IV format,
but no compatibility with VS1 cartridges. The SDLT-320 drives
are read & write compatible with the SDLT-220 drive format.
SDLT-600 drives can read SuperDLTtape I and VS1 cartridges.
Although DLT 1 and DLT VS80 drives use Fujifilm DLTtape
IV Data Cartridges, these drives use the special Benchmark*
Drive Cleaning Tape. Do not use the DLT CleaningTape III in
DLT1, VS80, VS160 or SDLT drives. The three models of cleaning
tapes may look similar, but they are not interchangeable!
*Benchmark was aquired by Quantum in November 2002. All three
model cleaning-tapes are each good for 20 uses; mark the label
after each cleaning and do not use more than 20 times. DISCARD
AFTER 20 USES !
