The worlds first dual-layer, large-capacity, 50-GB disc. A new layer stack technology allowed us to stack two recording layers, an intermediate layer, and a transparent cover layer into a thickness of only 0.1 mm. A recording film technology with high sensitivity and transmissivity made it possible to achieve the dual-layer structure. And a high-precision forming technology ensured that the intermediate layer has a uniform thickness throughout. These three technologies combine to make Panasonics Blu-ray Disc the worlds first to feature two recording layers and a capacity of 50 GB. Its no surprise that this disc is included in the R&D 100 selection of Research and Development magazine.
The spin-coated cover layer stabilizes recording and playback. Advanced technology is used to form the cover layer of the Blu-ray disc, which is a key element for stable data recording. A high-precision spin-coating process produces a cover layer with extremely uniform thickness.
A uniquely fabricated film enables repeated recording. An originally developed, highly sensitive and durable recording film further enhances the stable recording and playback characteristics of the Panasonic Blu-ray disc. This is particularly important for PC use, where data is frequently rewritten.
Fast and convenient high-speed data transfer at double speed (maximum 72 Mbps) Data can be recorded and played back at double speed(maximum 72 Mbps). High-speed data processing that is approximately 6 times faster than DVDs allows large quantities of data to be handled without difficulty during operations such as recording images and backing up hard disks. Maximum transfer speed for DVDs (normal speed) is 11.08Mbps.
High-precision layer stack technology High-precision layer stack technology is used to stack two recording layers, an intermediate layer, and a transparent cover layer into a thickness of only 0.1mm to achieve dual layer structure with 50GB capacity.
High-precision spin coating process technology Advanced spin coating process technology forms the cover layer with extremely uniform thickness to ensure stable data recording.
Unique hard coating protection technology makes the surface extremely scratch resistant. Panasonic`s unique hard coating technology has been utilized to create an extremely hard protective layer. The discs can be handled safely even without the cartridges.
Blu-ray Discs are compatible with Blu-ray drives only.
