GENERAL INFORMATION:
Imation expands on its storage portfolio offering the next-generation Ultrium LTO 5 tape cartridge. A single tape cartridge features 1.5 terabytes of native capacity and 3.0 terabytes of compressed capacity with data transfer rates of up to 280MB/second (2:1 compression), offering significant improvements over prior tape generations. The design reflects the features of previous generation while adding new features such as partitioning, to enable additional file control and efficiencies in space management. In addition, enhancements in servo technology and improved data compression ensure the same length of tape can store more information, allowing data center managers to keep their existing footprints without adding space to accommodate the growth in primary storage.

Tera ngstrom™ Technology
Imation`s proprietary Tera ngstrom Technology employs three unique steps to every LTO 5 tape cartridge to create magnetic media with a significantly smoother surface and a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), delivering reduced errors and increased productivity and throughput.
Robust Cartridge Construction
The patented corner snap keeps the leader pin in place and the cartridge tightly closed to prevent error-causing debris from entering the cartridge and helps ensure that the tape flows evenly for maximum read/write capability.
The unique three-piece tape spool design distributes stress more evenly over the tape compared to two-piece spools. The construction keeps the tape flat, helping protect data across the entire tape.
Exceptional Performance and Quality
A proprietary servo-writing process optimizes tape tracking and helps ensure accurate read/write operations, enabling best-in-class Position Error Signal (PES) performance to minimize servo off-track errors and improve overall transfer rates.
Partitioning
Only available in Ultrium LTO 5 tape cartridges is a new partitioning functionality, enabling a capability that allows enhanced file control and space management to address growing needs of market segments.
Security and Protection
Imation Ultrium LTO 5 tape is the second generation to offer drive level hardware-based writing of encrypted data to the tape cartridge, helping protect the storage and transport of sensitive information, along with offering WORM (Write-Once, Read-Many) functionality.
